Thank you for reminding us how hard the community fought for their human rights, and how quickly and deceitfully they can be dismantled by those who refuse to understand.

Thanks Mary Sophia. Unfortunately, ongoing vigilance is required and no guarantee of maintaining human rights.

This was a really interesting read, and the imagery is powerful, thank you Kelly.

I always go back to Shirley MacLaine in TERMS OF ENDEARMENT where she goes around the nurses' desk politely (though with panicked concern) saying it's time for Debra Winger's shot, she's in pain and all she had to do was wait for the time and now it's the time, she needs her shot, and no one is moving until Shirley screams, "GIVE HER THE SHAHHHHHHHHT!" Then she collects herself, thanking the nurses as she goes back to the room, following the nurse with the shot. Nothing gets done until someone else is shamed, yelled at or inconvenienced. Especially if a woman is asking for the change/what's needed. And every time I listen to an audiobook, send a text or see a dog in a grocery store, I remember that was brough to all of us because the disabled community fought for what they needed...and we all benefitted. Thanks, Kelly. xo

I love that scene and it connects so strongly to these situations. Again, it seems screaming is required.
